MOKOKCHUNG — The long-overdue repair work on the critical IOC to Rotary Junction road stretch in Mokokchung town connecting the Mokokchung–Mariani lifeline road, kicked off on Thursday.
The repair work has brought significant relief to Mokokchung residents, ending months of struggles with poor road conditions. The INR 242.72 lakh project, executed by Northeast Enterprise Dimapur, aims to transform this crucial road, easing daily commute for locals.
Councillor Imtiyapang of the Mokokchung Municipal Council (MMC), addressing the media, expressed gratitude to Minister Metsübo Jamir for fast-tracking the initiative.
“The IOC to Rotary Junction road is a lifeline for Mokokchung’s residents, connecting key areas of the town. Its improvement will significantly alleviate commuter hardships,” he stated.

The project is slated for completion within eight months, with a two-year defect liability period as per the detailed project report.
Supervised by councillors from Arkong, Aongza, Salangtem, Kichutip, and Sangtemla wards, the work is tailored to address immediate needs amid the monsoon season.
Initial efforts focus on levelling the road surface and filling potholes to ensure safer travel.
Once the rains subside, comprehensive carpeting and drainage improvements will follow, adhering strictly to project specifications for durability and functionality, an official stated.
Tongpangmangyang, president of the Ongpangkong Students’ Conference, assured that OKM will closely monitor the project's progress as a watchdog.
“We are committed to ensure the quality and timely completion of the road within the stipulated timeline,” he said.
Acknowledging potential disruptions, he appealed for public patience, saying, “We urge the public to bear with temporary traffic inconvenience, considering the long-term benefits of improved road infrastructure.”
The project, detailed as costing INR 242.72 lakh, is a significant step toward upgrading Mokokchung’s urban framework.
Ward authorities and the Ongpangkong Students’ Conference have stated they will ensure that the contractor adhered to high standards, with no compromise on quality or quantity.
The public is requested to cooperate with authorities during the repair process, which may cause short-term traffic challenges but promises substantial long-term gains.
