DIMAPUR — The Rengma Welfare Society (RWS) has expressed strong condemnation over the recent incident involving the brutal assault, harassment, death threats, and extortion of two innocent Rengma youths in Manipur.
In a condemnation note, the society stated that the disturbing incident, which reportedly took place along the National Highway between Keithelmanbi and Sapermeina under Kangpokpi district, Manipur, is not just an attack on the victims, but also a serious violation of human dignity, safety, and the basic rights of citizens.
“The fact that the victims were simply engaged in their lawful livelihood makes this act even more unacceptable and highlights a worrying breakdown of law and order,” the RWS stated.
Condemning the “cowardly and inhumane act,” it emphasised that “violence and intimidation of this nature have no place in any civilized society and pose a direct threat to peace, harmony, and mutual respect among communities.”

The society urged the concerned authorities to take immediate and firm action by identifying and arresting all those involved, ensuring strict legal punishment, and strengthening security along vulnerable routes, especially for civilians carrying out their daily livelihood activities.
It further stated that it was essential that preventive measures be put in place to ensure such incidents do not happen again.
“The Rengma Welfare Society stands in full solidarity with the victims and their families during this difficult time. We remain committed to protecting the dignity, safety, and rights of our people.
“We also appeal to civil society organisations, community leaders, and authorities to work together in the interest of justice, restore public confidence, and ensure peace is maintained,” the note added.
