Dimapur, Jan. 4 (EMN): The indefinite bandh that was launched by Rengma tribe organisations on Jan3. in Tseminyu sub-division area of Kohima district was suspended today by the Rengma Hoho on humanitarian grounds.
"Taking into consideration the hardships caused to the general public owing to the bandh called by the Rengma Hoho and its frontal organisations w.e.f. 02.01.18 along NH-2, the meeting resolved to temporarily suspend the bandh with immediate effect until further notice to enable temporarily relief to the general public on humanitarian grounds," stated the press release of the Rengma Hoho.
It however stated that the suspension was not to be considered as if the Rengmas have 'softened its demand for Tseminyu district ' and cautioned the government that the 'fight for Rengma district' will continue till achieved.
The press release stated that the decision was arrived at after the Rengma Hoho conducted a meeting with Rengma leaders on Thursday at Dimapur.
Wozhuro of Wokha backs Rengmas
Wozhuro Range Public Organization (WRPO) on Thursday came in support of the district demand of its neighbouring Rengma Nagas.
"On behalf of six neighbouring villages of Wokha district, the Wozhuro Range Public Organization (WRPO) being an immediate neighbouring range, would like to convey through the media, our unanimous decision of our unflinching support and stands in solidarity with the Rengma Naga tribe to their long pending demand at this hour of their peaceful and democratic approach for district hood," stated the statement from the WRPO.
It stressed that the state government has to realise the need of the Rengma tribe that had been 'neglected for long' although it was the 5th administrative headquarter in the then Naga Hills having completed 65 years.
"Further the Rengma territory borders Wokha, Phek, Kohima, Zunheboto, and Bokajan (Assam), where there is a huge potential for growth and developmental activities," it added.
The WRPO insisted that the state government need to 'retrospect' and consider the 'genuine demand' without any delay so that 'balanced growth and development' is brought about for the Rengma Naga.
