The Rengma Hoho, Rengma Students Union, Rengma Mothers Association and Rengma GBs Association submitted a memorandum to the state Governor today. This followed a public meeting in Tseminyu town to protest the voilence on Western Rengmas in Karbi Anglong.In the memorandum, the organizations have appealed to the Governor and government to write to the Assam government to address the following areas.
1. To immediately ensure that justice be done and seen to be done, that the perception of vindictiveness and efforts to shield the accused person rather than to deck the conviction of the guilty be eliminated.
2. To expeditiously enact the proposed communal violence (prevention, control and rehabilitation of victims bill 2005) with the incorporation of sexual and Gender based crimes be urgently addressed.
3. To urgently discharge its (govt of Assam) responsibility to act with due diligence to investigate all crimes including those perpetrated against women and children and to provide adequate compensation without further delay and immediate effective measures to compensate families of the violence victim including compensation of livelihood for the loss of life, property and valuables to enable them to rebuild lives and with dignity to take effective measure to rebuild infrastructure destroyed and razed down during the riots through allocation of further budgetary and human resources to that effect including the provision of further government funding for such services
4. Take all necessary measures that internally displaced families access to public services such as equipped with all basic amenities roads sanitation and that a plan be created for guaranteeing the rights to education, health services in all Rengma nagas inhabited areas
5. Permanent police beat post be immediately set up at Lolashunyun/Tsuguchonri villages and Phencharo/Nkhenlari for the safety and peaceful co existence of the communities.
