Dimapur, Nov. 11 (EMN): Indian Army, Indian Oil Corporation Limited, members of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission and officials from different organisations paid homage to the World War II martyrs at Digboi War Cemetery in Assam on Sunday.
An update received here on Monday from PRO Defence said a "Remembrance Day" was observed to pay tribute to the soldiers from India and abroad, who laid down their lives during the Second World War.
Every year on the second Sunday of November under the aegis of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC) the "Remembrance Day" is observe, it said.
General Officer Commanding, Dinjan Military Station, the chief guest of the programme, laid wreath and addressed the gathering.
He shared about the sacrifices made by the brave soldiers during the World War II, which included a large number of Indian Soldiers.
Some of the Fiercest battles of Second World War were fought during the Burmese campaign. During these battles those who achieved Martyrdom were cremated at the Digboi Cemetery. The War Cemetery has 200 Graves including 50 brave soldiers from India.
The troops of Indian Army organised a Guard of Honour to commemorate the occasion.
A pipe band played military tuned with élan, to pay homage to the martyrs.
