Kohima, Sep. 26 (EMN): In commemoration of the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and under the initiative of the governor of Nagaland, PB Acharya, an inter-collegiate quiz competition for Kohima district under the theme “Life and works of Mahatma Gandhi” was held at Kohima College, Kohima on Sep. 26.
Jointly organised by the Kohima College, Kohima and Science College, Jotsoma, the competition saw enthusiastic participation from ten colleges viz. Oriental College, Kohima Science College, Mt. Olive, Japfü Christian College, St. Joseph College, Jakham, Kohima College, Kohima, Modern College, Baptist College, Sazolie College, Jotsoma and Capital College.
Describing Gandhiji as a social reformer, economist, political leader, spiritual leader and most of all an educationist and a philosopher, Khrienuo Tseikhanuo, vice principal Kohima College, in her
address, said the two aspects of Gandhi’s philosophy that is pertinent to today’s time are ‘love of God’ and ‘respect for all religion’.
She maintained that Gandhiji strongly believed in the principle that truth is the ultimate reality and that all religion leads to the same destination, albeit through different paths. Tseikhanuo urged the students to revive the philosophy of Gandhi and apply in their individual lives and make the society a better place to live in.
The competition, held in two rounds of questions with four sets of question for each participant, saw the students showcasing their brilliance by rapidly answering the questions. The selected five participants then underwent a stiff competition as three sets of questions were asked for each of them with time allotment of only 10 seconds.
Ultimately, Kohima College, Kohima was declared as the winner followed by St. Joseph College, Jakhama and Capital College, Kohima. It was informed that the winners will be felicitated by the Governor on October 2 marking the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi at Raj Bhavan.
Phek: Kekhruvelu Tetseo from Pfutsero Government College was declared winner of the Phek district level quiz competition, while Menu-u Mero from Pfutsero Government College and Ruvehu Keyho from Christian Mission Higher Secondary School, Phek, were declared second and third winners respectively.
The district level quiz competition was organised by Phek Government College on September 25 on the theme “The life and works of Mahatma Gandhi.” A press release recieve here stated that altogether two higher secondary schools and two colleges participated in the event.
Earlier in the day, PGC’s principal Dr. Vizovol Mekro delivered the keynote address and the vote of thanks was said by Merenlemla Jamir, assistant professor, department of mathematics. The competition was chaired by Shesalu Lohe, assistant professor, department of botany, and Tsotalu Nakro, assistant professor, department of history, was the quiz master. The event was judged by assistant professors namely Thosusie Katiry, Temjenmeren and Vedulu.
Limatemjen from Dimapur Government College was declared winner of the inter-collegiate quiz competition organised by Dimapur Government College on September 26, while the second and third positions were bagged to Bidemo H Ezung from Immanuel College and K Atomi Assumi from Yemhi Memorial College.
The quiz competition was held on the topic “Life and works of Mahatma Gandhi” commemorating the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. Altogether 11 colleges from across Dimapur took part in the quiz.
All the participants were awarded certificates and the winners will receive the prizes on October 2 at a felicitation programme cum seminar on “The thoughts and philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi” at the Raj Bhavan, Kohima.
