The State of Nagaland is replete with numerous Christian denominations. In addition, we have other non-Christian religious organizations. However, it is observed that, only NBCC is accorded recognition by the State Government, in its official listings as though it is a Baptist State. The Catholic Association of Nagaland (CAN) for example is an apex Association of the Catholic community of whole State of Nagaland, affiliated to the ‘All India Catholic Union’ (AICU) and has its respective Tribal Unions such as ‘Angami Catholic Union’ (ACU), ‘Lotha Catholic Union’ (LTU), etc. and correspondingly also with its ‘Nagaland Catholic Women Association’ (NCWA) and ‘Nagaland Catholic Youth Association’ (NCYA); as components. The religious bias is myopic if not discriminatory. The State today is a Christian State, due to the composite status by enumeration of all the denominations.
