Reinstalling values & traditional attires with young artisans

Dimapur, April 1 (EMN): With the objective to identify and acknowledge the work of Naga artisans, to reinstall the value and traditional attire among the young Nagas, to promote the identity of Naga attires and to bring unity in diversity, Youth Development Specialization of North east institute of social sciences and research (NISSER), organised one-day workshop programme on “Appreciation and promotion of traditional attires among the Naga youth,” on April 1. Speaking at the workshop, Dr. Rev. Fr. C.P Anto, principal of NISSER, said it is a challenging role for professionals and social workers to understand and maintain the importance of preserving traditional attires so to sustain one’s identity. He also opined that churches, institutions could play a major role in promoting, preserving and sustaining the rich traditional attire of Nagas through innovative ideas of new minds and to take it to a higher level. The participants from different districts shared their skills, struggles and experience in weaving of different traditional attires, marketing aspects. They also stressed the need of younger generation to pass it on with more innovations to a national and international platform. A total of fourteen women artisans participated. The workshop concluded with a group discussion and presentation.
