- DIMAPUR — With an
aim to improve transport-related issues, the Regional Transport Authority (RTA),
Dimapur, held its board meeting on February 20 under the chairmanship of the
deputy commissioner (DC) of Dimapur, Dr. Tinojongshi Chang, in his office
chamber.
- A DIPR report stated that key transport-related issues
including restriction of heavy vehicles parking around Unity Gate and Patkai
Bridge were discussed in the meeting. The board also deliberated on relocating
taxi and ticket counters to the Inter-State Bus Terminal (ISBT) and
subsequently formed a committee to study its implementation.
- The board also discussed on restrictions and alternate
routes for manual rickshaws and handcart pullers (Thela) and assigned the
Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) and the officer in-charge of traffic to study
the matter.
- Besides, the board also addressed concerns about parking
fees at Dimapur railway station, where both railway authorities and the DMC
currently collect charges from taxis. It was decided that the DMC would engage
in discussions with railway authorities to resolve the issue.
- The RTA board also reviewed speed limits for different types
of roads and decided to write to the state government for official
implementation. Additionally, the possibility of establishing separate RTA
Boards for Chümoukedima and Niuland was discussed and decided to submit a
proposal to the state government.
- A key topic of discussion was the issuance of two-wheeler
taxi permits for Dimapur, Chümoukedima and Niuland. The board finalised
conditions for granting permits, issuing forms and related procedures. Plans to
establish a prepaid taxi booth at Dimapur airport was also discussed.
- The board further discussed on sub-committee report on
auto-rickshaw fares and parking under the RTA jurisdictions of Dimapur,
Chümoukedima, and Niuland.
