Regional Seminar held at Kohima Science College

Resource persons during a regional seminar at Kohima Science College in Jotsoma on April 9.


  • DIMAPUR — Kohima Science College, Jotsoma, in collaboration with Assam Down Town University (ADTU), Guwahati, organised a one-day regional seminar on “Unlocking potentials: empowering faculty and expanding career opportunities for students” on April 9 at the college conference hall.

  • The seminar was held under the framework of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) inked last year between the two institutions, which sought to promote academic collaboration, research partnerships and student exchange programmes.

  • The seminar began with an introductory session chaired by Dr. Lilongchem Thyug, IQAC coordinator, while Dr. Limatemjen, professor and dean, delivered the welcome address and provided an overview of the objectives and expected outcomes of the seminar.

  • An update from the college stated that the event witnessed the presence of principal, vice principal, dean, head of departments and over 90 participants including faculty members, researchers and students.

  • The first session was led by Dr. Seydur Rahman from Assam Down Town University, who spoke on the topic "Entrepreneurship development and value enrichment among students."

  • The key points of his presentation included distinction between business and entrepreneurship; entrepreneurship process and skill building; livelihood and entrepreneurial opportunities in areas such as beekeeping and mushroom cultivation and start-up policy as a cornerstone among various policies of ADTU.

  • Dr. Rahman emphasised the need to instill entrepreneurial values among students and highlighted viable rural-based ventures as practical models for self-reliance and innovation.

  • The session II was jointly conducted by Dr. Prasenjit Kr. Das and Dr. Laishram Shantikumar Singh.

  • Dr. Das spoke on "Teaching and research augmentation through AI tools." His talk included AI in education, applications of AI in image and video processing, demonstration and introduction to AI tools and discussion on AI ethics.

  • Dr. Singh spoke on "Research funding: Key to faculty development and institutional growth." His session included identifying suitable research topics, types of research, overview of government funding agencies.

  • The session concluded with an interactive question and answer segment, where participants actively engaged with the speakers and shared personal experiences, further enriching the discussions.
