Dimapur, Oct. 11 (EMN): Mokokchung College of Teacher Education (MCTE), Yimyu in Mokokchung district, and Nagaland State AIDS Control Society (NSACS) have jointly launched a Red Ribbon Club (RRC) at MCTE on October 11.
Speaking on the importance of blood donation, Dr. T Chubala Aier, CMO Mokokchung, urged upon the faculty and students of the college to save lives by becoming voluntary blood donors for life.
Metevinuo Sakhrie, NSACS joint director of IEC, presented a comprehensive picture on the basics of HIV/AIDS, scenario of HIV in the state and also the main provisions of the HIV/AIDS (prevention and control) Act 2017, while the topic on RRC guidelines and activities was taken up by Chongkoi Khaming, AD MM in-charge of YA NSACS.
In her exhortation, the college principal T Alemla Longkumer urged the students and teachers of the college to seriously take upon the responsibility as mentors of school going students and educate them regarding the correct information about HIV/AIDS and importance of blood donation.
Molu Jamir, president of Mokokchung Voluntary Blood Donors’ Association, delivered a motivational talk on blood donation.
Altogether, a total of 105 persons attended the launching programme which was followed by a voluntary blood donation camp. An update from the college stated that a total of 19 students and teachers came forward for voluntary blood donation. With the launching programme, a total of 68 colleges/ educational institutes across the 11 districts of the state are implementing the Red Ribbon Club programme.
