Dimapur, Sep. 6 (EMN): Even as Kerala limps back to normalcy after a catastrophic flood that killed more than 400 people and damaged hundreds of houses, its Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has expressed solidarity with Nagaland which is also reeling from floods and landslides. He has appealed to the people of the state to help its Northeast counterpart.
“We are a society struggling to overcome the perils of a huge deluge. Now, the Northeast state of Nagaland is also trapped in floods. They had reached out to us during our crisis. The Nagaland deputy chief minister had visited me in Thiruvananthapuram and expressed solidarity. They handed over their share of assistance to Kerala. We should keep their love in our mind. Let us help Nagaland in overcoming their distress. Let us stand in unity and declare our solidarity with them,” wrote Vijayan on his Facebook page (translated from Malayalam).
The Nagaland government had offered financial help to Kerala although the Northeast state itself was badly hit by monsoon rains that caused floods and landslides across the state.
The deputy chief minister of Nagaland, Y Patton was accompanied by two state legislators V Kashiho Sangtam, and Dr. Longriniken Ao, – during a visit to Kerala on behalf of the government of Nagaland on Aug. 22 and the 23rd to express solidarity with the southern state. He donated INR one crore to Kerala’s Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, as financial assistance for the people of Kerala.
The state’s delegation visited several relief and medical camps during the visit. Patton interacted with the flood-affected and expressed sympathy to them.
The deputy chief minister also donated financial aid for immediate medical relief at all the places the state team visited. The places they visited are Aranmula at Pathanamthitta, Kozhencheri Church, Thiruvalla Model Girls High School, Eramallikkara at Allapuzha, Seva Bharatiya at Chengannur, Lohia Memorial High School at Venmony, Mar Thoma High School at Venmony, among others.
