There were multiple credits for one account — Bank official clarifies

Our Reporter
Dimapur, April 28 (EMN): After the reported 'data leak,' of personal information of Nagaland citizens living outside the state who registered at iamstranded.nagaland.gov.in, there was another reported lapse, but later found to be what bank officials implied was 'issues' in the crediting system.

A bank official said credit was sent to multiple names but with the same account number. The funds will be accounted to the beneficiaries again, it was informed.

A number of students outside the state had complained that the funds were being deducted after having been credited into their accounts by the government.

A student in Mumbai who did not wish to be named had informed Eastern Mirror that on Monday, April 27, her account was credited with INR 4000 after she had registered on the website.

But a few hours later, she received a message informing that it has been deducted off her account.

“Upon checking my bank statement, it said that the amount was reversed and debited back to the same source,” the student said.

Many students living outside the state had also taken to social media to report the same issue, and had expressed fear that more amounts of funds could be deducted.

“Today my account was credited 4000 rupees by GON (government of Nagaland) as I have applied from the website iamstranded.nagaland.gov since I’m in Delhi…but the sad news is that after some few hours, they deducted the money again… wondering what is going on, if anybody else facing the same…,” a post from a student stated on Facebook.

Funds to be reverted to beneficiary

However, speaking to Eastern Mirror, the regional manager of the State Bank of India (SBI) Paogin Haokip clarified that there were multiple credits sent to the same account number and all transfers were made through bulk transfers.

“Purity of the data integrity was not there and credit was sent to multiple names but with the same account number,” said Haokip.

The official assured that the funds will be reverted at the earliest once full proofing of the accounts is done.

The branch manager of SBI, Secretariat branch, from where the funds are being credited also told this newspaper that there were some issues with data integrity and as soon as the government sends out the clarified list of beneficiaries, accounts will be credited.

The SBI has also issued a notice verifying the same issue and stated that all accounts that faced the issue will be credited on April 28.
