Kohima, Oct. 7 (EMN): Given the challenges faced by private firms in Nagaland due to the novel coronavirus pandemic, a Kohima-based information technology firm Ramietech Solutions has, on Wednesday, impressed upon the need to empower local and indigenous IT firms in Nagaland.
While briefing media persons in Kohima, the co-founder and proprietor of Ramietech Solutions, Kedo Nagi stated that all private business' are “heavily impacted” and faced with various challenges due to the pandemic. It was learned that the firm had employed 30 plus people prior to Covid-19 pandemic, but was compelled to reduce to 20 employees at present.
He has sought empowerment of government agencies in order to encourage local IT firms to harness local talent and channelise towards productivity as well as create employment opportunities for local youths. He further pointed out the need for the government to encourage local and indigenous IT enterprises to exploit their real potentials without any hindrance.
While requesting the IT department to encourage local IT firms instead of outside firms, Nagi was of the view that local firms better understand the nitty-gritty of the government. Even support and maintenance becomes an issue for outside firms unlike local firms, Nagi stated.
Co-founder of Ramietech Solutions, Avi Nagi was sceptical of the growth of the IT department in the state due to its low budget. Accounting fund constraints for slow progress of work, Nagi has sought the need to increase the budget on the IT sector in order to empower the local IT firms.
Speaking on the benefits of empowering the local firms, he vouched that the local firms know the local conditions and culture better, which is best suited to their condition.
“It is the local firms that create employment opportunities for deserving Naga youths and trained skilled professionals. There will be lesser cost unlike that of outside firms and services can be provided as and when required,” Nagi maintained.
Also speaking on the occasion, operations manager, Richard Asoso, pointed out that Nagaland is still in “infant stage” when it comes to information technology. He was of the opinion that awareness needs to be created among the people of the state about how IT is going to play a crucial role in the impending digital world.
“IT is required in every aspect of life and that there is no end or limitation to IT. People’s mindset towards IT has to be changed and should be ready to embrace the changes and developments brought forth by IT as it has come to stay with us. The sooner it is the better for the masses. One has to learn to move on to a digital platform,” he added.
He further expressed optimism that the knowledge provided by the IT firm would go a long way in empowering the public.
Ramietech Solutions, which is focussed on sustainable growth, provides services to both the private and government sectors by means of system integration, software development, websites, CCTVS, computer sales and servicing and other electronics and printing services.
Some of the major projects implemented by the firm included migration and implementation of electoral roll in assembly elections 2013; IT infrastructure setup for NSRLM in state office and all districts; digitisation of state museum, state library and district model library; e-patrol for managing beat patrolling (Nagaland Police); cyber forensic lab for CCPWC (Nagaland Police); and digitisation of Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA).
