Dimapur, Jan. 19 (EMN): Raku Rhakho (senior) and Sahiku Rhakho (under-16) emerged as champions of the Lozaphuhu Wrestling Association (LWA) meet held on Jan. 18.
Husato Tsutso, Huvo Vese and Vesheto Vese, all from the senior category, secured the second, third and fourth positions respectively, a press release informed.
In the U-16 category, Vemunu Rhakho secured the second position, while Ruvevo Rhakho and Mhaneto Vese bagged the third and fourth position.
T Nungsangtemjen, executive engineer, PWD (NH), 6th division, Phek, who was the special guest, emphasised on the importance of indigenous games and stated that it should be preserved.
Apart from wrestling, he appealed to promote and showcase indigenous games as there are numerous games waning due to various external factors, it said.
Earlier, the program was chaired by Niekhoyi Rhakho, while Rev. Kevengoi Sakha, pastor, Lozaphuhu Baptist Church opened the day with prayer. The program culminated with benediction by Sukhuveyi Tetseo, catechist, Lozaphuhu Catholic Church.
It was also informed that six wrestlers from the senior category will participate in the area wrestling meet and two wrestlers in the U-16 category.
