Dimapur, April 21 (EMN): Welcoming the decision taken by the central government to ban red lights atop vehicles from May 1, Governor has removed red beacons from vehicles of Raj Bhavan.
Governor said there is no room for VIP culture in a democratic country adding all are equal before the law and should be treated equally. According to the Governor the red beacons have, in many places, become a lightning rod for public disgust at official corruption and the “VVIP culture.” He said large number of persons use red lights on their vehicles for committing crimes in different parts of the country with impunity because the police officials are mostly scared of checking vehicles with red lights.
While welcoming the decision of the Prime Minster, he said it is high time ‘we need to get out of it” and further hoped that others will also take similar action.
