HEAVY rains lashed several parts of the country affecting normal lives with the national capital witnessing downpour for the second day on Sunday.
Heavy rains along with storms have been forecast for Haryana, Punjab and Himachal Pradesh for the next few days.
Char Dham yatra resumed on Sunday evening after routes to Yamunotri and Gangotri were opened.
Heavy rains affect lives in Delhi-NCR region
Heavy rains lashed the national capital for second day on Sunday, a day after the MeT department recorded 54 millimeters of rainfall.
The rains brought down the temperature with the minimum temperature being recorded at 23 degrees Celsius, four degrees below normal, and maximum temperature at 26.5 degrees Celsius.
The rainfall is expected to continue in the national capital for the next two days.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal tweeted, “200 mm rains in last 36hrs. Govts continuous monitoring and intervention. Much less water logging than last years. We’ll keep improving.”
Amarnath Yatra halted due to bad weather
Heavy rainfall stopped annual Hindu pilgrimage Amarnath Yatra in Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday.
It was halted after landslide on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway at Gangroo in Udhampur district.
The yatra from both the north Kashmir Baltal and south Kashmir Pahalgam base camps has been halted.
“No pilgrim will be allowed to move towards the cave shrine from either of the base camps till the weather improves,” said a government official in Srinagar.
So far around 1.50 lakh pilgrims have performed this year`s Amarnath Yatra by having `Darshan` of the Holy `Lingam` inside the Himalayan cave shrine situated 14,500 feet above the sea level in south Kashmir Anantnag district.
Kedarnath Yatra suspended, heavy rains in Uttarakhand
Kedarnath Yatra was halted on Sunday after heavy rains lashed Rudraprayag.
An alert has been issued for Uttarakhand where heavy rains are predicted for the next two days.
