Dimapur, Dec 10: Minister of State for Railways Rajen Gohain has called for timely completion of all railway projects of the Northeast Frontier Railways, for optimum utilization of resources.
The minister was addressing a meeting that held at the NF Railway headquarters in Maligaon this afternoon. General Manager of NF Railway Chahatey Ram, General Manager (Construction) HK Jaggi and other senior officers were present at the meeting.
Gohain said that the safety of passengers and the security of railway assets should be given prime importance.
Further, the minister said that the railways should take all possible steps to maintaining cleanliness.
Gohain also interacted with divisional railway managers of five divisions of the NF Railway through videoconference.
The minister directed the railway officers to ensure adequate cleanliness of stations including the Guwahati station which is considered the gateway to the northeast region. Gohain asked for ‘optimized working of mechanized laundry.’ He called upon the railways’ officers to explore ‘innovative strategies’ for ‘better utilization of luggage / parcel vans attached with passenger trains.’
For improving freight revenue, he added, the railway should try to gauge the industry’s need for tapping new segment of freight.
The minister has asked the railways’ managers to devise plans for development of tourism in the northeast region in association with state governments so that the railways can play constructive roles in realizing the full potential of region’s tourism industry.
