DIMAPUR, JULY 8: The Indian Railways have introduced an SMS-based coach-cleaning system in which passengers who has confirmed journey tickets could have their coach cleansed “at any time on receipt of information in addition to scheduled cleaning inside coaches at specified intervals.”
This was informed through a press release from the Chief Public Relations Officer of NF Railway, Maligaon on Friday. “On Board House Keeping Service (OBHS) is provided by Indian Railways to facilitate cleaning of train during its run itself for the benefit of passenger if such need arises. OBHS includes unscheduled cleaning at any time on receipt of information in addition to scheduled cleaning inside coaches at specified intervals.
“Passengers having confirmed journey tickets may ask for cleaning staff to attend their coach by sending their requests as SMS to 58888 by typing CLEAN < Space >< 10-digit PNR number>. Alternatively passenger can enter the PNR no at www.cleanmycoach.com. Passenger also has option of downloading android mobile app CLEANMYCOACH INDIAN RAILWAYS for sending their requests,” according to the press release The software named OBSERVE (On Board Services) will forward the request to mobile phone of the cleaner present in the particular train directly. The Railway Administration will also simultaneously receive an intimation of such requests for follow up. At present the facility is available in more than 1000 trains throughout Indian Railways, it informed.
“For providing better amenities to travelling passenger, the SMS based coach cleaning system in mail/express trains has now been extended to trains originating from Guwahati where OBHS has not been provided. This will help passengers of the nominated trains to get their coach cleaned by just sending a SMS. The facility is available between 06-00 am to 10-00 pm.
“On receipt of the SMS, the Division through which the train is passing would be immediately alerted so that the cleaning requirement can be attended at the next nominated cleaning station. Passengers are requested to avail the newly introduced facility. This is yet another initiative undertaken by NF Railway for extending improved services to the passengers where prompt attention is sought to be extended on cleanliness matters,” it stated.
