IMPHAL, July 10 : The ongoing railway construction works in the state particularly in the Marangching area under Tamenglong district has been crippled due to the ban on the projects by the affected farmers since last few weeks, according to reports. This came to light when the affected farmers of Marangching area highlighted their grievances in the local media on Sunday.
Around 10 private companies were engaged in the 98- km broad gauge railway line construction between Jiribam and Tupul in Manipur. Farmers of Marangching village said most of the paddy fields were damaged beyond control due to the ongoing earth works.
“So now we’re demanding some forms of compensation as we may not be able to regain our fields in our future,” a farmer who lost field measuring about a hectare told the local media. “We may take up agitation if our grievances are not addressed timely,” he added.
