Sir,
The 156th birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore or Robi Thakur(in Bengali) falls on 8th May(Sunday).Tagore needs no introduction in the global village today. However due to certain specific problems here in Nagaland like the long search for a Naga identity, Nagaland did not blindly follow many things of the outside world. Tagore did not know about the ‘Noga’ (hillman) of Assam, but sadly even today Nagas seem to know less than little about him whose genius was reflected in many fields, but so far as poetry is concerned he is unparalleled.
His statues, writings, paintings and many other things are available all over the world. In India, every state has got a Rabindra Bhavan, perhaps the only exception is Nagaland. With Tagore, there can be no hostility or animosity on Naga behalf. Being an ardent Tagore lover, it is my sincere and humble request to my Naga friends is to kindly arrange to build a Tagore centre or Rabindra Bhavan at Kohima capital.
Fund will be easily available from the centre. NEZCC can help. The building may be designed after a suitable structure at Santiniketan (Vishwa Bharati university).
Yours faithfully,
P.Ganguly,
Kohima
