Kohima, Oct. 2 (EMN): The first general conference of the Upper PWD Youth Organisation in Kohima was held at the Nagaland Public Works department’s office complex in the capital town on Monday. The event was conducted with the theme “excel for unity”.
The minister for Roads and Bridges Dr. Neikiesalie Nicky Kire attended the occasion as the chief guest. In his address, he called upon the youths to be united dwelling on the motto “moving forward together.” He said that unity had become ‘more difficult’ and that there was a lot of people who ‘give negative points and even if we think it is correct.’
‘We try to do something; there will be people who give different ideas,’ remarked Kire. He suggested that during such gatherings all the tribes are represented or given a post so that the colony becomes more united while also getting to know more people.
Kire emphasised that nowadays ‘we don’t have concern for people anymore’ and urged the youth to render more community service. It is more blessed to give than to receive, he said.
The minister also urged the youth organisation to ‘sustain the organization in the long run through hard work and effort instead of depending on easy money.’
It was informed that Upper PWD Youth Organisation of Kohima was formed in the year 2004 but due to financial constraints, its general conference couldn’t take place over a span of 12 years.
A new constitution was adopted for the colony and new office bearers for the year 2018-20 was elected during the session.
A monolith commemorating the first general conference was unveiled by Kire outside the NPWD’s office premises.
