Dimapur, May 11 (EMN): Pranab Vidyapith Higher Secondary School (PVHSS), Dimapur, observed the 158th birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore on May 9 in the school’s auditorium.
The programme began with chanting of school’s prayer, garlanding to the portrait of Rabindranath Tagore and Swami Vijayanandaji Maharaj and floral tribute to Manik Bhattacharjee, founder secretary of PVHSS Dimapur, and his associates.
In a welcome speech, the school’s principal, Monoj Bhattacharjee recounted the life and contributions of Rabindranath Tagore. He also encouraged the students to study their own mother tongue in order to develop and preserve their culture and tradition.
Besides the principal, others speakers namely Noorie Roy Chowdhury, in-charge of morning shift; Ranu Purkayastha, senior teacher; and Navojyoti Datta delivered inspirational speeches.
The formal programme was followed by cultural programmes in which songs, solo and group dances, recitation etc were also performed by the students and teachers.
Swami Chinmayanandaji Maharaj, secretary of PVHSS and in-charge of Bharat Sevashram Sangha, Dimapur and Karbi Anglong district, Assam, delivered words of blessings. The programme concluded with the vote of thanks delivered by Dilip Das, assistant teacher.
