Dimapur, June 27 (EMN): The ongoing bridge construction between Purana Bazaar and Walford in Dimapur is expected to complete by Dec. 2019
. This was informed in a press release received here on Wednesday from commissioner-secretary of Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA), Benjamin Newmai.
The committee on Government Assurances on June 25 led by its chairman, MLA Chotisuh Sazo along with committee members conducted spot verification of the ongoing bridge construction.
Officials of Urban Development department briefed the committee members about work progress. The department informed that the initial work order was issued on Feb. 16 2010. However, owing to objection from BRO, court cases and other reasons he would could be resumed only in the year 2017.
So far, three piers for pile foundation, cable suspension bridge, reconstruction of two pile caps, mid piers, and piling work for abutment wall were said to have completed and the retaining wall is about to completed.
The committee members on verifying the spot expressed satisfaction and further encouraged the department to give all efforts to complete the project within the stipulated time.
The committee requested the department to strengthen the cable suspension bridge for pedestrian safety or to restrict usage completely; to enhance river training from 50-200 mtr.
Other members of the committee who were present during the verification included legislators Dr. Imtiwapang Aier, YM Yollow, L Khumo Khiamniungan, Mhathung Yanthan, Toshi Wungtung. They were accompanied by commissioner-secretary, N Benjamin Newmai and officers of the NLA.
