Dimapur, November 18: The third-place match of the ongoing 65th BN Mullik Memorial All India Police Football Championship that was scheduled on Friday between Punjab Police and Mizoram Police was called off after Mizoram was disqualified for their behavioural charge against the referee during the semi-final earlier played between BSF and Mizoram Police on Thursday.
When Eastern Mirror contacted organising secretary, K Martin Pienyu, he said that the report send earlier to the media on Thursday was a ‘mistake’ as there was no match on Friday.He said Mizoram team had charged the referee during the semi-final match that resulted in disqualification, while the team was under suspension the report was filed, he clarified. When asked who was at fault, he said ‘the players shouldn’t go against the referee’. Punjab Police was given the third place without the match being played.
The final match schedule for Saturday between BSF and Assam Rifles will be played at NAPTC Stadium, Police Complex in Chumukidima at 1 pm.
The closing ceremony will be attended by Home Minister Y Patton as the chief guest.
