- DIMAPUR — In pursuance to the directives from
the office of the Commissioner and the Urban Development Department, the
additional deputy commissioner (ADC) of Pungro, James T Khulu Tikhir, has
issued a directive imposing a complete ban on certain single-used plastic (SUP)
items effective from May 1.
- The banned items include all single-used plastic carry bags
regardless of thickness or microns and all single-used plastic water and soft
drink bottles below one litre capacity.
- The restrictions would apply to all individuals and entities
including educational institutions, government and private offices, commercial
establishments such as shops, hotels, restaurants, religious organisations,
industrial units and banquet halls within the jurisdiction of the Pungro Town
Council (PTC).
- It warned that violators of the new policy would face strict
penalties. It informed that a fine of INR 10,000 would be imposed for the first
offence, INR 20,000 for the second and repeat offenders with permit
cancellation.
