Earlier, during the opening ceremony, Zhoveyi Rose, village council chairman (VCC) of Thipuzu Village, attended as the guest speaker. In his address, Rose highlighted the growing popularity of Naga wrestling, stating that wrestling is deeply rooted in Naga tradition and culture.
He noted that the introduction of different wrestling categories has created greater opportunities for athletes to compete and succeed, while encouraging them to take up the sport with seriousness.
Citing popular wrestler and champion Venuzo Dawhou as an example, Rose said that Naga wrestlers have brought pride not only to the Chakhesang community but also to Nagaland by competing internationally.
Rose also advised organisers to avoid using the word “Late” before a wrestler’s father’s name during announcements, stating that mentioning a father’s name brings pride and encouragement to the wrestler.
Furthermore, he urged the wrestlers to give their best, uphold sportsmanship, and remain dedicated to the sport.
