Our Correspondent Kohima, January 13 The 44th general conference of Sümi Aphuyemi Kiphimi Küqhakulu (SAKK), the apex students’ organization of Pughoboto sub-division under Zunheboto district began on Wednesday, January 13, at Asukiqa village. Pughoboto sub-division comprise 24 villages. In his address at the inaugural function of the four-day conference, Minister for Roads and Bridges, Y Vikheho Swu underscored the need for Nagas to stand on their own feet and generate their own resources instead of always depending on the Central government for assistance. He said that the state has been going through a bad financial situation not just because the Central government is yet to make NITI Aayog fully functional and discontinuation of the special category status for Nagaland, but also due to the inability of the people in generating their own resources. He maintained that the educated youth and government employees must go back to the villages and play a pivotal role to revive the three basic aspects in the village councils- the system of accountability, transparency and honesty in carrying out different developmental programs. He opined that if those qualities are established properly in the villages, the society will progress and development will ultimately take place. The Minister also encouraged the student community to strive to attain quality education and be hard-working to achieve success in this competitive world. Meanwhile, stating that the sub-division was landlocked in the past, however, Swu said, during the recent years people travelling to and from Zunheboto and some parts of Tuensang have started passing through Pughoboto. It is now turning into a “hot-spot” and one of the most economically viable place, he said, and further called upon the people of the area to properly build the sub-division by taking up entrepreneurship as well as additional cultivation to gain economically. On the occasion, the minister also unfurled the SAKK flag and declared the official commencement of the various sporting events and literary session of the conference. The conference will conclude on January 15.
