25th January is observed as National Voters’ Day (NVD). In order to encourage more young voters to take part in the political process, the Government of India had decided to celebrate January 25 every year as ‘National Voters’ Day’. It started from January 25, 2011 to mark the Election Commission of India’s foundation day.
With the rest of the country, the booth level officers, nongovernmental organizations, church leaders and students under Pughoboto Sub-Division joined the 6th National Voters day celebration which was held with the theme “Inclusive and Qualitative Participation” at the ADC’s office compound on 25th January 2016.
Additional Deputy Commissioner & District Election Officer, Pughoboto, Avelu Ruho emphasized on the theme stating that Government officials are bound by the constitution to make clean e-roll and delete the dead names and multiple enrollment. She challenged the public to take responsibilities for those who have reached 18 years to guide and enforce their rights and to be enrolled in the electorate roll as it is enshrined in the Indian constitution to franchise their valuable votes.
The ADC also challenged the NGOs and Church leaders to continue their co-operation and give a message of clean election in the spiritual platform as the NBCC organized in the past, for which she also appreciated the NBCC for extending help. While the ADC congratulated the BLOs for their giving their utmost efforts, she apprised and encouraged them to be taken as the guardian of the e-roll.
T.Axhi Lohe was awarded the best BLO of the year 2016 under Pughoboto Sub Division which was given away by ADC & DEO. She also handed over the I/D card to the newly enrolled.
SDO (C) of Pughoboto, Namang Sepong Chang in his introduction and significance of NVD speech said that Pughoboto sub-division has achieved 100% photo electorate coverage. The total electoral roll after the final publication was 12724 out of which 6344 was male and 6380 was female. The new enrolled votes were 156 out of that 86 females and the rest 70 were males. President PPKK, Kitoho V. Zhimo delivered a short speech.
The ADC administered of the NVD pledge and did the presentation & distribution of I/D cards to the newly enrolled electorates was also given away by her.
The programme was also attended by the SDPO, Pughoboto Akihito, 8th NAP, Naltoqa A Coy commander Pholosing Sangtam, DBs and others. The programme was chaired by EAC, Pughoboto, Selemla and invocation was rendered by Police Unit church, Pughoboto, Pastor, Pasang Sherpa. Vote of thanks was pronounced by EAC, Ghathashi, T.Sulangthung.
