MOKOKCHUNG — Citing a surge in fraud attempts targeting welfare recipients, the District Programme Officer (ICDS), Mokokchung, has issued a public alert warning beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY) against a spate of scams reported across the district.
According to District Programme Officer Imliyanger, scammers are impersonating government officials, bank representatives and other authorised personnel to dupe PMMVY beneficiaries by seeking sensitive personal and financial information, including Aadhaar numbers and bank account details.
The alert warned that fraudsters often contact beneficiaries through phone calls, SMS or digital messages, urging them to click on suspicious links or share private details under the guise of “updating beneficiary records” or “releasing pending instalments.”
In several cases, the scammers reportedly possess accurate personal details of the targets, lending credibility to their false claims and making detection difficult.

Imliyanger urged beneficiaries and the general public to remain vigilant and strictly avoid sharing personal, financial or banking information with unknown persons or through unverified links.
He advised people to independently verify the authenticity of any communication claiming to be from government departments or banks by contacting official helplines, visiting authorised websites or approaching verified offices.
The public has also been cautioned to treat unsolicited calls, messages or emails purportedly from officials or financial institutions with suspicion and to report all suspected fraud attempts to the police or concerned authorities without delay.
The DPO informed that the district administration and relevant departments are actively working to curb such fraudulent activities and safeguard beneficiaries’ interests, while stressing that sustained public awareness and caution are crucial to effectively counter and eliminate such scams.
