Dimapur, November 1: Deputy Commissioner, Kohima, Rovilatuo Mor called upon the public to function as the watchdog to minimise corruption prevailing in the society and institutions by participating in terms of neutral guidance and comments in the functioning of the government system,
Addressing a programme to commemorate the Vigilance Awareness Week in his office on November 1 on the theme “Public participation in promoting integrity and eradicating corruption,” Mor said the theme was relevant and worth pondering upon and adhere to in day to day functioning of government institutions. The programme was jointly organised by the district administration and Lead Bank, Kohima.
Stating that corruption does not only refers to government/private institutions but involves all the public sectors, he said public should function as the watchdog to minimise corruption prevailing in the society and institutions by participating in terms of neutral guidance and comments in the functioning of the government system. He solicited active participation and involvement of the public in the process which he hoped would reduce any corruption in the working system. Apart from financial and other corruptions, DC said time corruption is one important issue which has consequences to the public. He, therefore, urged every government servant to make sincere efforts by enforcing timely arrival and departure in respective establishment so as to eradicate time corruption. The Deputy Commissioner also administered the pledge on the occasion.
“Nagaland has the best mobile, best vehicle which are available in any of the developed countries, however on road, education and health sectors, the State stands very low even compared to the poorest States of India,” said Reny Wilfred, Assistant Commissioner, while speaking on the theme. Stating that there are various institutions combating corruptions, he however said public has to hold each and every public servant accountable for their doing. He said public can participate in eradicating corruption by taking part in the policy making and be aware of the things which can be used to eradicate corruption.
Reny said Nagaland State has one of the best systems in the world- communitization programme for development- to combat corruption and bring about inclusive development. He, therefore, said if the public actively get involved in combating the corruptions, then development can take place in the State.
Thangboi Lunkim, AGM, SBI, RBO, Dimapur, said corruption is something deeply rooted in human value and individual moral, which has to be fought with the public participation to promote integrity and eradicate corruptions. He urged all responsible stakeholders to spread awareness to the people to root out corruption and regain the trust and confidence in public life.

NEC: North Eastern Council (NEC), Shillong, observed the inaugural day of the “Vigilance Awareness Week-2016” on October 31 which was organised on the theme “Public Participation in promoting integrity and eradicating corruption.”
Several programmes like essay writing competitions, talks on vigilance awareness are scheduled during the Vigilance Awareness Week which will concluded on November 5.

Phek: As part of eradicating corruption campaign, Phek district observed Vigilance Awareness Week and Rasthriyan Sandalp Diwas (National Re-dedicating Day) on the theme “Public participation in promoting integrity and eradicating corruption,” organised by the district administration in collaboration with State Bank of India (SBI), Phek branch, on October 31 at DPDB conference hall, Phek.
Deputy Commissioner and Vigilance Officer, Phek, Murohu Chotso, who was the main speaker, highlighted on the active participation of State Vigilance Commission and their effort in eradicating corruption in the State. He urged all government servants to use their power accurately and accordingly to avoid committing offence.
Lack of transparency by the departments and misuse of public facilities and funds are all part of crime, he said adding that liabilities may lay upon a person if he or she turns to be a silent spectator of corruption. He also administered the pledge.

A short speech was delivered by Birjit Singh, SBI Bank Manager, Phek, where he called upon the public to remain vigilant from fake companies. He also asked the public to co-operate with KYC norms.
Meanwhile, if any suspicions arise from phone calls, public are requested to lodge complaint to police station at the earliest along with their phone numbers.
The programme was chaired by Nukutulu, SDO (C) Phek. DBs, colony chairmen, GBs, DBs, CMA and heads of offices attended the programmed.
