Public safety: Purana Bazaar Tribal Council declares non-cooperation with disturbing forces
PBTC has declared that it will not extend cooperation to “any individuals of factions who cause disturbance to public safety, under the jurisdiction of East Dimapur
- DIMAPUR — The
Purana Bazaar Tribal Council (PBTC) has declared that it will not extend
cooperation to “any individuals of factions/organisations/Naga political
group(s)” who cause disturbance to public safety, peace and harmony under the
jurisdiction of East Dimapur.
- The council’s decision, taken during a meeting held on
Friday, was prompted by a letter it had received on March 31 from the Secretary
of Kilo (Home) Affairs, GPRN/NSCN (Unification), Daniel Gangte.
- In the letter, the council was reminded that the ceasefire
monitoring office of GPRN/NSCN (Unification) at Jorapukhuri, Purana Bazaar,
comes within the jurisdiction of the East Dimapur Town Council and “it has been
under siege by the opposing force since the 22nd of March 2025.”
- “This development has called for serious intervention and
reaction for rightful repossession of the office. In light of this development,
there is a high possibility of confrontation, which may hinder public safety
and tranquillity in the area.
- “To prevent such situation from spiralling out of control,
we urge upon the colony chairman, GBs and the councillors of the East Dimapur
Council to initiate and work towards immediate remedial measures by evacuating
the office until the situation is brought under control,” the letter read.
- Following this, the PBTC called for a meeting on Friday to
discuss public safety and peace in its jurisdiction.
- “After thorough deliberation, the house decided that it
would extend non-cooperation to any individuals of factions/organisations/Naga
political group(s) causing disturbance to public safety, peace and harmony
under the jurisdiction of East Dimapur,” stated a press release issued by the
council.
