Irked by what it called the lackadaisical attitude of the department of Urban Development in maintaining the hospital road of Mokokchung town, a local organization called the Penli Youth Organization (PYO) has informed that the organization would imposed indefinite road block from December 11, if the department do not act immediately.
Speaking to media persons on Tuesday, December 8, PYO’s president Imtimongba Imchen said that the hospital road (Police point to Imkongliba Memorial District hospital) was being looked after by the Urban Development department for the past two years. The department took charge of the road from the Public Works Department.
The organization’s leader said that the organization had met with officials of the Urban Development department recently, and apprised them about the pathetic condition of the road.
“We have proposed the department to repair the road for the sake of 125thanniversary of Mokokchung Town but they replied ‘It cannot be done now,’” a PYO official alleged.
“We have also suggested that the Penli Youths will provide volunteer service and the department to provide essentials support but they declined again and replied “It cannot be done now”, the PYO official added.
The hospital road of Mokokchung is not only for the people here but it is one of the important roads for other districts to availed better health treatment, so “immediate renovation of road is very important,” the PYO asserted.
“The Penli youths are ready to provide volunteer service to repair the major potholes,” the PYO leaders said.
The Penli Ward authority and Mokokchung Taxi Union (Police-IMDH Taxi Unit) has also given their endorsement to the Penli Youth Organization’s decision to impose a road block from the police point to Imkongliba Memorial District hospital.
It is learned that nongovernmental organizations such as the Mokokchung Taxi Union (Police-IMDH Taxi Unit), Intermingle Club and others have ‘repaired’ the road many times after seeing the pathetic condition of the road.
