- DIMAPUR — The
Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) of Phek division conducted a
one-day block-level Information, Education and Communication (IEC) and
capacity-building training for Sekrezu block was held at Vamuzo hall in Chozuba
town on March 12. The programme was sponsored by Sanitation and WSSO of PHED,
Nagaland.
- AN update from PHED stated that the main objective of the
training was to achieve positive behavioural change, promote sustainable open
defecation-free practices and ensure community involvement in sanitation
initiatives, make sure that the assets created under Swachh Bharat Mission
Grameen (SBMG) and Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) are effectively utilise in a right
way.
- It stated that 17 villages under Sekrezu block attended the
training. The trainees included members of village council committee, WATSAN
committee and Swachagrahis.
- Ellies Yanthan, PHED WASH consultant, Kohima, spoke on solid
waste management, importance of water quality at household and community level
and the strategies for preservation and conservation of water and good
practices.
- Abigail Ritse, PHED hygiene and sanitation consultant, Phek,
highlighted on grey water management and faecal sludge management, while
ill-effects of single-use plastic and importance of plastic waste management
was shared by Kutulu vero, PHED district coordinator, Phek.
- To enhance the knowledge of the stakeholders on SBMG as well
as to improve the quality of interaction with the communities, a WhatsApp
online based SBMG academy exam was conducted after the training session.
- Following the training, PHED, Phek division and state
consultants conducted a field visit to Thurutsuswumi village on March 13 for
direct observation of sanitation facilities and hygiene practices.
