Dimapur, Dec. 29 (EMN): Expounding on the necessity for good governance in the state for all round development, Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), G Akheto Sema has called upon every individual to contribute for the success of clean election campaign.
Addressing the members of Philimi Welfare Dimapur (PWD) on the occasion of its silver jubilee celebration held at NER Agri Expo site, 4th Mile, Dimapur, on December 29, Akheto has underlined the responsibility of every individual to ensure success of clean election campaign as propagated by the Nagaland Baptist Church Council (NBCC). G Akheto Sema was addressing the community members as the guest of honour.
Akheto made this remark as people often tends to set aside their spirituality and get themselves involve in trying to earn something during the time of election. He stressed on the need for a strong action plan with punitive clauses for the clean election campaign lest it becomes only a slogan and gets back to square one.
Akheto said the Naga people especially the youth were living beyond their means thereby contributing to the low economic status of their families. He was of the view that nobody would be poor if people could live within their limits. He has encouraged the younger generation to equip themselves with skill and explore in the private sector for jobs instead of relying on government sector. He has also spoken out against the system of proxy teaching saying though the government has appointed qualified teachers, the students were being taught by unqualified ones thereby destroying generations. On the allegation that police personnel were involved in illegal collections, the police officer has termed them as stray instances.
Pointing out at PWD logo showing a hand lifting another hand, Akheto said it was quite appropriate with their nomenclature stating, “A welfare would mean thinking, helping and doing good towards one another in all times good and bad.” He encouraged the gathering to accelerate their life towards progress and development.
Convenor of PWD Jubilee Planning Board, S Khutolu Wotsa in his closing remarks emphasised on the need to uplift one another and march ahead in unity.
First chairman of PWD, Vikuto Wotsa, delivered the welcome address, while Rev. Thilihe Yeptho released and dedicated the jubilee souvenir. Folk song was presented by Niheto Assumi and friends, while Philimi Students’ Union Dimapur presented the opening ceremony act.
A host of invitees including Philimi Welfare Kohima, Khrimto Welfare Dimapur, Rotomi Welfare Dimapur, in-laws of Philimi village and Philimi village GBs also exhorted the gathering.
