Dimapur, November 14
In the backdrop of the ongoing road construction of the Dhobinala-Signal-Thahekhu road in Dimapur, a local Joint Action Committee of communities living the area has appealed to the departments of Power and Public Health Engineering, and mobile and telephone operating companies to remove, shift, or relocate any kind of structures of their respective departments falling within the parameter of 12 meters/39.37 feet.
The joint action committee issued a press release on Saturday, November 14.
“The said road would have a width of 12 meters wide and structures of the said departments fall within the parameter of the road and may cause obstruction to the construction of the road. Therefore, the JAC, in the interest of all concerned, has urged the concerned departments including the telephone companies to remove/shift/relocate the structures that would obstruct the construction within seven days (1 week),” the press release stated.
In a statement, the JAC also requested public and individuals to remove or shift or relocate any of their constructions and structures that fall within the proposed width of the road. They are requested to do the needful within the given time of one week to ensure smooth execution of the construction works.
“On the event of failure to remove the structures within seven days, the JAC said that the committee or the concerned department will not be held responsible for any damage or destruction caused to the structures that may fall within the parameter of the road, during the execution of the works,” the statement said.
JAC had requested the public of the 13 colonies and villages under Dhobinala-Signal-Thahekhu area to ‘extend utmost cooperation towards the successful completion of the road and also to bear the inconvenience that may be caused during the ongoing works.’
Just yesterday, angry youths from 13 colonies under Dhobinala-Signal-Thahekhu road demolished an ‘illegal’ business establishment near the IOC depot which according to the local joint action committee was an ‘illegal construction’.
According to various sources, the youths were forced to evict the ‘encroachers’ when the deed-holder of the land threatened some senior members of the locality and refused to corporate with the ongoing road constructions in the said area being carried out by the PWD department.
According to the JAC members, a ‘service centre’ which was started a few years ago was on encroached land that actually belongs to the government.
