DIMAPUR, JUNE 1
THE Phek Town Youth Society (PTYS) has resolved to uphold the resolution adopted by the public of Phek town on March 13 not to allow any cadre irrespective of any Naga political group to extort money from the public living in Phek town.
Resolving to uphold the ACAUT resolution of ‘One Tax, One Government’, the PTYS urged the administration to apprehend 2nd Lt. Kuveshevo of NSCN-K who is absconding after the May 30 incident in Phek.
The PTYS, in a release issued by its general secretary Seyiengoi Soho today, alleged that 2nd Lt. Kuveshevo and Capt Ape Koza of NSCN-K had stopped a goods-laden truck heading for Dimapur on the evening of May 30 and kept it under their custody for extortion. On receiving the information, the youth of Phek town rushed to the spot.
During the course of interrogation, Kuvoshevo allegedly pointed a gun at the youth. When they retaliated, he reportedly fled from the scene. However, Capt Ape Kozo was apprehended and handed over to police, the release said. The youth have been lauded by the PTYSfor their action against illegal activities.
Ironically the NSCN-K Chakhesang region on May 28 had published a statement in the local media seeking apologies to the public of Phek town for threats meted out to the leaders, extortion from the business community and also trying to disrupt the ACAUT rally. The PTYS have remarked that mere apologies and no efforts to control their cadres from such acts is “intolerable”.
