
DIMAPUR — The Pfütsero Town Chakhesang Students' Union (PTCSU) has cautioned teachers to be diligent in their duties; otherwise, reports will be sent to the directorate office, which will invite consequences and necessary action from the department.
In a press note following an ‘educational tour’ conducted by the union on August 7 and 8, in which it visited all the educational institutions in and around Pfütsero jurisdiction, the union mentioned that it also observed that some government schools lack basic facilities, proper infrastructure, and a lack of teaching staff and grade 4 staff.

It further stated that it observed the issue of substitute teachers, irregularity of teachers, lack of water supplies, poor road conditions leading to schools and colleges, lack of sports equipment, issues related to mid-day meals, etc., and appealed to the concerned departments to look into the issues urgently.
[bsa_pro_ad_space id=1]It felt the need to establish more colleges and higher secondary schools in Pfütsero town to meet the needs of the Phek district and the student fraternity in general, and appealed to both the government and private entities to open colleges of science and commerce streams and other technical courses, and assured full cooperation for the welfare of the student community.
According to the release, the PTCSU met with all of the principals of the educational institutions and deliberated on various matters confronting the educational institutions, as well as with the student bodies.
Mentioning that academic toppers have been seen in recent years from various schools in Pfütsero town, it stated that cell phone usage has been observed as a great harm to the students and that it is concerning to see an alarming increase in students using tobacco and alcohol.
It also demanded that sexual harassment cases, mental health issues, and bullying be addressed.
The PTCSU appealed to the educational institutions to set up student redressal/grievance cells to address the issue of student’s difficulties and concerns and warned shop owners selling tobacco and alcohol to students in uniform, minors, as well as students in general, that strict action would be taken if caught.
The union appealed to the concerned department and contractor building the new Pfutsero Govt. College to complete the work as per the plan at the earliest and urged the concerned department to upgrade the college according to the new course requirements.
