Dimapur, Aug. 4 (EMN): Officers and staff working in Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) non-life insurance companies posted in Dimapur joined in the nationwide strike on Wednesday to protest against privatisation of one public sector insurer.
The administrative officer of United India Insurance Company Limited, Dimapur, Rokov Zhasa, told media persons that Joint Forum of Trade Unions (JFTU) in the four sector general insurance companies called an all India strike on August 4 to protest against the central government’s move to privatise one of the public sector insurers.
He stated that the officers and staff from the four government general insurance companies including United India Insurance (UIIC), National Insurance Corporation (NIC), Oriental Insurance Corporation (OIC) and New India Assurance (NIA) joined the strike.
He also shared that the recent passing of the general insurance business (nationalisation) amendment bill 2021 at the Lok Sabha would lead to selling off the companies to private players, weaken the companies, and adversely impact the employment and social security of the employees both serving and retired.
He further informed that all the insurance companies in the state participated adding that insurance services were completely shut down for the day.
