DIMAPUR — The Pochury Students' Union (PSU) has strongly condemned the recent report of child abuse involving a minor girl, aged
11 years, allegedly by one Dr. Vibino Sabina from Khonoma village and presently residing in Jotsoma.
The union expressed utter dismay to learn that a sixth-grade student, who is also serving as a domestic helper, has been physically assault regularly and subjected to severe mental trauma from last year until her rescue by the Child Welfare Committee, Kohima, on May 30 last.
“Safeguarding the safety and welfare of our children is paramount, and any instance of abuse against any child is a severe breach of their rights and dignity.
Ensuring the safety of our children must be a top priority for every member of society, failing to uphold this responsibility undermines the core values of our communities,” PSU said.
It described such inhumane treatment of a child as utterly unacceptable and a gross violation of human rights and child welfare laws.
While condemning the act, the union has demanded immediate and thorough investigation by the relevant authorities and to serve justice at the earliest to ensure protection and well-being of children and to prevent such atrocities from occurring in the future.
While upholding its commitment to advocating the rights and dignity of every child, the union affirmed to pursue the issue till justice is attained.
