DIMAPUR - The Pathso Range Students' Union (PRSU) detected many “irregularities” in the functioning of both government and private institutions, especially schools, during the union’s visits to schools and offices within its jurisdiction, from April 26 to May 1.
The PRSU team visited all the schools in the area (totaling 11), sub-centers at Yokao, Tsuwao, Lengnyu and Kingnyu, and government offices at Panso headquarters, Noklak district, to assess the condition and functioning of the institutions and offices, PRSU stated in an update.
During the visit, the team observed many irregularities in the functioning of schools as none of the schools within Panso sub-division have the required strength of teachers, as per the recommendation of the staffing-pattern committee, the union stated.
[bsa_pro_ad_space id=1]“In fact, 9 of the 11 schools have more classrooms in the schools than the teachers. For instance, at GPS Lengnyu, there are only four teachers for a school with seven classrooms (LKG to 5th Standard). At GPS Kingniu, there are only four teachers for a school with six classrooms (LKG to 4th Standard).
At GPS Yokao, there are four primary teachers and a community teacher for a school with six classrooms (LKG to 4th Standard). At GPS Ekhao, there are only 3 teachers, with no appointment of Hindi teacher since the inception of the school. At GHS Panso, there are shortages of subject teachers,” PRSU stated.
The union also pointed out that during the visit, many of the offices were found to be closed without functioning, while absenteeism in duties and rampant practice of keeping substitutes were observed.
It also alleged that many of the staffs, especially in the educational institutions, were not performing their duties, to which the union said it will initiate appropriate course of action.
“The post of Medical Officer at PHC Panso lies vacant, after the resignation of the incumbent Medical Officer.
“Infrastructurally, the offices and school buildings were in pathetic condition, with exception in one or two. Most of them are old and in dire need of new construction,” it added.
Expressing deep concern over the state of the affairs in the government machineries and institutions, PRSU urged upon the government to prioritise on actions to address the issues highlighted.
