Dimapur, July 2 (EMN): A students’ union in Mon district has demanded action from the district’s education officer against ‘proxy teaching’ in the area.
The number of ‘proxy teachers’ is ‘rising alarmingly,’ the Tizit Area Students’ Union (Tasu) stated in a copy of a representation that was addressed to said officer.
‘As the proxy teachers were rising alarmingly particularly in Tizit, the Tasu decided not to allow keeping of proxy in any of the schools under Tizit,’ the statement explained.
The organisation said to have summoned 47 proxy teachers serving in various schools under Tizit to the union’s office. The teachers in the area were asked to be present on all working days ‘as they are into the teaching profession “by choice and not by luck,”’ the union explained.
The students’ union has decided that no teacher shall be allowed to withdraw their salary if they do not ‘attend their duty.’
The Tasu has requested the district education officer of Mon to initiate action in accordance with government norms against ‘those absentees at the earliest.’
The union has exempted teachers who are pursuing B.ED/DIET courses by seeking leave from the establishment ‘as per the specific years which is allocated for the completion.’
The statement declared that “any proxy in near future” shall invite an own course of action and the organisation ‘shall not be held responsible.’
