Kohima, August 9
Governor PB Acharya while expressing dismay over the prevalence of proxy teachers in government schools today called upon the government teachers to do away with the system and to be sincere in their places of posting.
Addressing the 2nd Graduation Day of Modern Institute of Teachers Education (MITE) Kohima as the guest of honour, Acharya, however, expressed happiness that there are good number of government schools where the State government has been appointing teachers.
Nevertheless, he regretted that despite the huge amount of salary and benefits provided by the government, the teachers are not seen in the schools but ‘proxy teachers’ are taking the classes, which in turn is causing great harm to the society.Such system has to be done away with in order to build a better future of the students and also a prosperous Nagaland, he said while also calling upon the government teachers to be sincere towards their duties and responsibilities.
Meanwhile, congratulating the 93 graduating students from MITE 2013 batch, he said “you are now entering into a new phase of life: educating the younger generation and preparing them for the future”.
Expressing that being a teacher is one of the greatest honours and a privilege, he, however, said “it also comes with immense responsibility, which is, educating the next generation.”
He said being a teacher does not only mean teaching from the books, but it is also about changing the hearts and minds of the students. “It is about encouraging students to be good not only academically but also teaching them to become a better human being in order to create a peaceful and harmonious society,” the Governor maintained.
Pointing out that Nagaland lacks in the number of trained teachers compared to other States, he said technical training of teachers is not the only criteria to be a good teacher. “This is because to be a good teacher, it requires one to have a heart that is geared towards bettering the younger generation through one’s passion in teaching and connecting with the students,” he added.
The Governor also called upon the graduating trainees to be to take up the challenge to be a good teacher.
