Dimapur, April 10: Assistant Director of Health and Family Welfare and Board of Homeopathic System of Medicine, Dr. Bendangtula Jamir, underlined on what she termed ‘relaxed’ nature of the Naga society resulting in various kinds of lifestyle diseases and living conditions affecting the health in today’s time.
She delivered this lecture on Monday during the awareness talk on Homeopathy organised by the Symposium for Holistic Health (SHH) in commemoration of the 262nd birth anniversary of Dr. Christian Friedrich Samuel Hahnemann (Father of Homeopathy).
Dr. Bendangtula Jamir stressed on the different systems of medicines under the umbrella of Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Siddha, and Homeopathy (AYUSH), which is a new programme under the Department of Health and family welfare. This was also the first Homeopathy programme conducted at the ICFAI University.The chief guest elaborated on the unique approach of treatment to a patient where they try to understand the patient’s overall history of the sickness before simply giving a medicine for a temporary relief. The speaker cited example of the forefathers who were hard working and industrious, unlike the young generation who have adapted to a layback lifestyle.
Dr. Bendangtula expressed shock over the increasing numbers of diseases like diabetic and blood pressures among the younger groups that was found mostly between the ages of 45 to 50 because of the eating habits and less exercise. She further encouraged on ‘AYUSH’ for any ailment especially for pregnancy mothers and small children as they are mostly prepared with herbal ingredients that have no side effects.
She appreciated the Prime Minister Narendra Modi for promoting ‘AYUSH’ in the country. She said India is now leading in Homeopathic medicines because they are safe and comes with an affordable price.
The guest of honour Dr. Lanuyanger Jamir enlightened the students and the faculty members with the origin of the word ‘Homeopathy’ which was originated from two Greek terms ‘Homeos’ meaning ‘Similar’ and ‘Patheos’ meaning ‘Suffering’.
Professor Charles P Alexander, vice-chancellor of ICFAI University Nagaland, presented a tailor-cut speech on the life history of Dr. Christian Friedrich Samuel Hahnemann and how he made his medicine to be accepted worldwide and revealed some of the secrets of famous people like Queen Elizabeth of England and Maharaja Ranjit Singh, who used his medicines during that time.
Dr. Kevizonuo Kuolie (HOD English), in his vote of thanks, gave special thanks to the two esteemed guests for their valuable information and also acknowledged the presence of the students and the faculty members.
