Prohibitory order imposed in Tamenglong

  • IMPHAL — A district authority in Manipur has issued prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) 2023 in view of escalating tensions over an alleged land dispute between old Tamenglong and Dailong villagers.

  • The district magistrate of Tamenlong, Dr. L Angshim Dangshawa, issued an order in this regard today. The order prohibited no assembly, rally or gathering of five or more persons within the Tamenglong headquarters area immediately until further order.

  • The carrying of arms, ammunition or explosive substances in the Tamenglong headquarters has also been strictly prohibited. The order came into force with immediate effect and would remain valid until further notice, according to the district administration order.

  • The order covered the entire Tamenglong headquarters and the bordering areas between Dailong, Duigailong and Old Tamenglong villages.

  • It may be mentioned that Tamenglong district headquarters is located about 150 km west of Imphal and it is mainly inhabited by the Zeliangrong community.

  • In a separate development, the state governor, Ajay Kumar Bhalla, on Wednesday chaired a security meeting at the conference hall of Raj Bhavan in Imphal and reviewed the overall law and order situation in the state.

  • Security advisor, Kuldiep Singh; DGP Manipur Rajiv Singh; GOC 57 Mountain division, Major General SS Kartikeya; ADGP (Intelligence), Ashutosh Kumar Sinha; ADGP (L&O), Lupheng Kailun; joint director (SIB), Navdeep Singh Grewal; officials from CRPF and BSF attended the meeting.

  • Additionally, the state chief secretary, PK Singh; commissioner (Home), N Ashok Kumar; GOC 3 Corps Lt. General Abhijit S Pendharkar; IGAR (South) Major General Ravroop Singh; and IGAR (East) Major General Suresh Kumar Bhambhu also attended the meeting via video conference.
