Imphal, Feb. 14 (EMN): Manipur Chief Minister Nongthombam Biren Singh on Wed. spoke about the need to encourage the private sector as the government cannot ‘accommodate everything’ in its sector.
Singh was speaking during the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Shija Hospitals and Research Institute Pvt Ltd and the Sun and Sands Enterprises Pvt Ltd for the development of ‘Shija Health City’ in Manipur at the chief minister’s conference hall.
Mentioning that such an MoU would definitely help the poor and the needy in the state, he said, “We have to encourage PPP (Public-Private Partnership) model for the welfare of the people.”
Calling the agreement an outcome of the North East Development Summit (NEDS) which was held in Nov. the previous year, he said that the government was trying its best to execute a number of MoUs with other investors in the future. After the NEDS, many investors have been visiting the state to invest in various sectors.
In his brief speech, Dr Palin Kh, the managing director of Shija Hospitals said Manipur has opportunities such as in human resource, geographical advantage; India’s Act East Policy, Tourism, Powerhouse of Sports.
More than 700 Manipuri students are undergoing MBBS course in foreign countries, Dr Palin said.
Meanwhile Chief Executive Officer Rahul Narvekar of Sun and Sands Enterprises Pvt Ltd said Manipur has the largest number of trained nurse in the country after Kerala and they can be utilised in abroad after giving language training. Also he assured that his company would build 100 start-up entrepreneurs from Manipur.
Minister for Health and Family Welfare L Jayantakumar Singh, Minister for Water Resources and Youth Affairs and Sports Letpao Haokip, Chief Secretary R.R Rashmi, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Shri Vineet Joshi, Commissioner (Health) Sumant Singh, officials of Shija Hospitals and Research Institute Pvt. Ltd. attended the function.
The Shija Health City Manipur is a 200 acres mega project with an estimated project cost of about INR 3,500 crore. Major features of the Shija Health City Manipur are 2300 bedded hospitals, Medical College up to 250 students intake, Dental College, Nursing College, Hotel & hospitality management institute, Cancer Hospital, Drugs and surgical consumable manufacturing plants, Residential Complex, Shopping complex, Ambulance including Helicopter Services etc.
