DIMAPUR, NOVEMBER 8: Dimapur District Legal Services Authority (DDLSA) in collaboration with Criminal Justice Fellowship Program, Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), organised awareness programme on prisoners’ rights and functioning of Legal Services Authority for under-trial inmates of Sub-Jail or District Jail.
Nikita Engheepi from Criminal Justice Fellowship chaired the programme, while DDLSA panel advocates Sentimenla and Zuchembeni spoke on rights of prison and functioning of Legal Services Authority. The inmates were made aware that the state still guarantees their basic human rights even though their freedom maybe limited. The program was attended by panel advocates - L Luzukhu and Dzuvinuo along with visiting guests- Roshni Nair and Rashmmi, from TISS, Mumbai representing the Criminal Justice Fellowship Program, which is under the Centre for Criminology and Justice, TISS. The program aims to encourage criminal justice fellows to work on new areas where there is dearth of trained human service professionals or demonstrate the scope and potential of working on critical issues. In Nagaland, Criminal Justice Fellow, Nikita Engheepi is working on the issue of under-trial prisoners.
The team also had an interaction with inmates and cleared their doubts.
Meanwhile, the organizers thanked the jail officers and staff for their cooperation.
