Imphal, Feb. 12 (EMN): President of the proscribed Revolutionary People’s Front (RPF) Irengbam Chaoren passed away due to terminal brain tumour around 10.30 am on Friday, according to a press release.
He was 65 years old. He joined the party in 1990 and served as president till the end of his life, says Deputy Secretary (Publicity) Roben Khuman of RPF in a press release on Saturday.
Chaoren alias Bhorot also served as the Convenor of the CorCom (Coordinating Committee), a conglomerate of like-minded armed rebel groups in the region since 2011 and a signatory member of the Manipur People’s Liberation Front in 1999.
He is the eldest son of late Ibomcha and Tongbram Ningol Jamuna of Khegempalli Huidrom Leikai in Imphal West district.
Following the death of Chaoren, the outfit will observe 15 days mourning by flying its flag at half-mast at all stations for 15 days from February 10 to February 24, as a mark of respect and honour to the departed soul, the release added.
Meanwhile CorCom also expressed its heartfelt condolences at the demise of RPF president, according to the publicity committee of CorCom.
