Dimapur, Dec. 19: The NPCC has appealed to the State Election Commissioner to ensure that proper electoral roll is prepared without any bias for the ensuing municipal and town councils elections. The State Congress made the appeal while bringing to his notice that some GBs within the municipal and town councils are allegedly found to be members and office bearers of political party organisation and their services are being utilised by the government in the present special summary revision of electoral roll for the civic body elections.
Complaining against letter vide No.SEC/MTC ELE-17/2016/107 dated Kohima the 11th November, 2016, NPCC vice president Khriedi Theunuo, in a representation to the State Election Commissioner, on Monday said there are substantial questions of law being raised in the said letter which was given in reply to the president of District Congress Committee, Dimapur. The letter was also said to be forwarded to the NPCC.
“This exercise being a Special Summary Revision, no enumerators are being used. The GBs and ward Chairman/members were utilized to identify voters from 2016 ECI Electoral Roll to ascertain and segregate the voters according to the wards only. The GBs being a representative to the government irrespective of any government in power is to exercise their powers and functions without bias in case instances come to your notice, this may be brought to the notice of the ERO and AERO,” the NPCC quoted the election department letter.
The State Congress said unless the government proves beyond doubt the integrity of the said GBs in discharging their powers and functions without bias, the present special summary revision of electoral roll for municipal and town council elections will be treated as biased and cannot be accepted.
