A pre-monsoon livestock health camp at Kezoma village focused on disease prevention, vaccination, and biosecurity measures for farmers.

DIMAPUR — A pre-monsoon preparedness camp on the prevention and control of livestock and poultry diseases was conducted by the 17-member Rapid Response Team (RRT) of the Khuzama-Jakhama Block at the Kezoma Village Council Hall, Kohima, on April 6.
The programme was organised with the objective of creating awareness among farmers and strengthening disease prevention measures ahead of the monsoon season, stated an update.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. K Elizabeth Yhome, JDOV DLO Kohima, spoke on “ASF in pigs", stressing its impact on backyard pig farming. Dr. Keyolenu Yore, VAS, discussed Classical Swine Fever (CSF) and stressed the importance of regular vaccination to prevent losses and improve productivity.

Dr. Menguzenuo Chielie, Deputy DOV, Veterinary Dispensary, Jakhama, elaborated on biosecurity measures, sanitation, hygiene in livestock farms, and disaster preparedness in the livestock sector.
During the interactive session, farmers shared their experiences and sought clarifications from the experts. Four teams were formed to carry out intensive CSF vaccination across all four khel areas of Kezoma village.
Free veterinary health consultations, along with the distribution of medicines, supplements, and informational leaflets, were also provided.
A total of 11 bovine (cattle), 51 swine, 15 canine, one feline, and 308 poultry were treated during the camp. Additionally, 59 pigs were vaccinated against CSF, and 17 blood samples were collected for routine serosurveillance.
